Overview
The South H7 is South's 7-inch Android controller. The 1920 x 1200 IPS screen reaches 850 nits, so maps and stakeout screens stay readable outdoors, and the backlit QWERTY keypad handles codes and attributes when gloves or rain make the touch screen awkward. An octa-core processor with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage runs Android 12, with a microSD slot for more space.
As a standard controller, the H7 connects to a wide range of devices, including SLAM RTK units, GNSS receivers, total stations and pipeline detectors, so one crew can switch instruments without switching controllers. Wi-Fi is dual-band with fast roaming, Bluetooth runs up to 5.0, and 4G LTE keeps NTRIP corrections and cloud sync online. NFC, a 13 MP camera and USB-C with PD fast charging are built in.
Two optional modules extend it. The Zigbee module controls a robotic total station at up to 600 m in good conditions, for prism-plus-position workflows. The GIS module adds a 1698-channel GNSS engine with RTK accuracy of 0.8 cm + 1 ppm horizontal, so the H7 works as a high-precision GIS collector on its own.
When the H7 is not the right choice: at 824 g and 290 x 195 x 30 mm it is closer to a tablet than a handheld. If you want a smaller pole-mounted controller with a full keypad, the South H6 is lighter at 520 g with a 5-inch screen.
