South A1X Android Total Station

The South A1X is an Android total station with a 5.0" touch screen that runs South or third-party field software, offered with 1" or 2" angle accuracy. It reaches 1000 m reflectorless and measures 1 mm + 1 ppm (1") or 2 mm + 2 ppm (2") to a prism. AutoHI measures instrument height by laser, and a red and yellow guide light shows the rod person where to move during stakeout. Benefits Run the same field app on the total station as on your GNSS controller. No more taping instrument height: AutoHI reads it to 3 mm. Faster stakeout with the guide light, up to 150 m. Choose 1" for control work or 2" for layout. Applications Construction stakeout Topographic surveys Control and boundary work (1") As-built checks Mixed GNSS and total station crews

Overview

The South A1X runs Android 9.0 on a 5.0" capacitive multi-touch screen. South built the A1 series with an open interface, so you can install the field app your crew already uses on its GNSS controller instead of learning a separate onboard program. One interface across GNSS and total station work means less training and fewer mistakes when crews switch between instruments.

You choose the angle accuracy when you order. The 1" model measures 1 mm + 1 ppm to a prism and suits control, traverses and boundary corners. The 2" model measures 2 mm + 2 ppm and covers stakeout, as-built checks and site topography at a lower price. Both reach 5000 m to a single prism and 1000 m without one, with 3 mm + 2 ppm accuracy up to 300 m.

Two features save time at every setup. AutoHI uses a laser to measure instrument height from 0.6 to 2.0 m with 3 mm accuracy, and the red and yellow guide light lets the rod person see which way to move, up to 150 m away. Jobs are stored on 32 GB and move over USB, Bluetooth, RS-232C or a flash drive.

When the A1X is not the right choice: the battery runs about 10 hours, half of the N41's 20 hours, so plan for a spare on long days. It is not robotic; for one-person work, see the NS10 or NS30. If you do not need Android or a touch screen, the N6+ in 2" reaches 1500 m reflectorless with a 16-hour battery.
