South N41 Total Station 1"
The South N41 is a 1" manual total station with a color touch screen and an onboard graphic program, built for control, boundary and topographic work where angle accuracy matters. It measures 1 mm + 1 ppm to a prism and up to 1500 m without one. A 4.0" color touch screen shows your points on a map, a red and yellow guide light speeds up stakeout, and one battery runs about 20 hours. Benefits 1" angles and 1 mm + 1 ppm distances for control and boundary work. See points and lines on a map instead of a six-line list. Faster stakeout with the guide light, visible up to 200 m. A full field day on one battery, two batteries in the case. Applications Control networks and traverses Boundary and cadastral surveys Topographic surveys Construction stakeout Deformation checks

Overview
The South N41 is the 1-second model of South's N40 series. It keeps the keypad and trigger key of a manual instrument, but replaces the classic text display with a 4.0" color touch screen and a graphic onboard program. Points, lines and stakeout targets appear on a map, so the crew can see a missed corner or a wrong code before leaving the site.
Angle accuracy is 1" from an absolute encoder, and the EDM measures 1 mm + 1 ppm to a prism and 3 mm + 2 ppm without one. That is the class you need for control traverses, boundary corners and monitoring points, where a 2" instrument starts to use up the tolerance. For daily topo and layout work, the same instrument simply leaves more margin.
In the field the N41 stores jobs on 32 GB of memory and moves data over USB, Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. The IP66 housing is sealed against heavy rain and dust, and the 3900 mAh battery is rated for about 20 hours, so a single charge covers a long day with time to spare.
When the N41 is not the right choice: it is a manual instrument, so one-person work needs a robotic station such as the South NS10 or NS30. If you want an open Android platform for your own third-party field app, the South A1X is the better fit. For layout-only crews on a budget, a 2" instrument such as the N6+ is enough.
